So you have just repaired your ship in Windrose and are now trying to equip the 12-Pounder Canons and other upgrades on it, but are getting the message “You can manage the gear of your Ship while close to a wharf.”

In Windrose, there are different structures where you can craft upgrades for your ship and where you can install those upgrades and repair your ship.

During the early game, when players repair the big ship and unlock the introductory quest, “How My Sea Adventure Began,” they must craft a Shipwright’s Workshop and craft a Wharf.

Many players ignore the latter, and when they craft upgrades and head to their ship to install them, they get the above message about the Wharf.

You can manage the gear of your ship while close to a wharf

The message means you haven’t yet placed a Wharf building in your settlement or nearby.

How to build a Wharf and install Canons and other upgrades on your ship in Windrose?

It is pretty simple! Press’ B’ on your keyboard and head to the ‘Crafting and Utilities’ tab.

There, you will find the ‘Wharf’ building in the Utilities section. Select and build it anywhere. Probably your base. Though it is not important.

Interact with the Wharf.

You can select your ship from the Docked Ships section and click on the ‘Manage Ship’ button to install the upgrades.

Once you are in the Ship Management menu, drag and drop the upgrades to their respective slots.

Crafting ship upgrades

In Windrose, you can craft ship upgrades at the Shipwright’s Workshop building, which you can build via the same Crafting and Utilities menu.

Once again, craft an upgrade at Shipwright’s Workshop. After that, access Ship Management via Wharf and drag and drop the upgrades.
