On Monday, August 31, Take-Two’s online and mobile gaming company, Zynga, surprisingly brought back Borderlands Mobile on Apple’s iOS Store in Canada, with expanded game modes, a new melee mechanic, and Vault Hunters, with Moxxi being one of them.

For players who don’t know, back in April of this year, Borderlands Mobile appeared on the iOS Store, without any announcement or proper communication from either Gearbox, Take-Two, or Zynga.

When GameSpot reached out to Zynga about the game, the spokesperson told them that NaturalMotion Studio is doing a “limited-time test.”

While Gearbox didn’t announce anything, Zynga confirmed that the team at Gearbox is providing “creative guidance” on the game’s lore, history, and similar details.

The spokesperson further said, “We hope that players enjoy this new Borderlands experience and look forward to their feedback.”

Ever since that first test ended, this is the first time the game has appeared back on the iOS Store. Now, as before, there has been zero communication about whether this is a soft launch in select regions or just another test.

On the iOS Store, the game’s listing shows version 0.1.0, which confirms it’s another test or early access to gather more feedback and player data to steer the game’s development.

That said, this new version of Borderlands Mobile has added Zero and Moxxi as two new playable Vault Hunters with unique character kits.

While Zero already made his debut as a playable character in Gearbox’s all-time hit, Borderlands 2, Moxxi is a surprise new addition, as she hasn’t been a playable Vault Hunter in any of the mainline games.

Apart from Zero and Moxxi, Borderlands Mobile version 0.1.0 also expanded the existing game, including Tower of Trauma and Circle of Slaughter, modes with new levels.

Lastly, a new melee mechanic was also added to the game.

The game uses a free-to-play model, which isn’t new for mobile games. On that note, the current version of Borderlands Mobile includes microtransactions, or at least its first form.

You can use real money to get Eridium, which in the mainline games could be farmed for free. From the looks of it, Eridium will be the premium currency in Borderlands Mobile and will show up at key points in the game, pushing players to make purchases to generate revenue.
