Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port, which was initially planned for an October 3, 2025, release, before getting delayed indefinitely, finally has a release date, which appeared on the game’s listing on a Portuguese retailer called Gaming Replay.
According to Gaming Replay’s listing, Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port will arrive on Friday, February 27.
Borderlands 4 was one of the most poorly optimized games of last year. And, the Nintendo Switch 2 port was in even worse condition. And that is why, along with a few other reasons, Gearbox decided to delay the game.
Since then, Borderlands 4 has received several major and minor updates, many of which were focused on performance improvements. In fact, as a player myself, I can confirm that the game’s performance is up by at least 32 to 37% since launch.
Even after that, Gearbox is still working on further optimising the game.
That said, a Feb 27 release for the Nintendo Switch 2 port sounds reasonable, as four months for optimising a game and releasing it in a better playable state is possible for veteran developers like Gearbox.
However, I may point out that retailer listings should be taken with a grain of salt, as many times, these are just placeholders or simply wrong.
That being out of the way, when Gearbox delayed Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port, they said:
Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important.
So, assuming the leaked release date is true, we may finally get the much-requested Cross Save feature in Borderlands 4.
