On Thursday, March 19, the Founder and CEO of CI Games, Marek Tymiński, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the company has raised around $19m to back the ongoing production of Lords of the Fallen 2.

For players who don’t know, Lords of the Fallen 2 is a dark fantasy action RPG and a souls-like sequel to 2023’s Lords of the Fallen reboot, which established its name in the top souls-like game lists.

Despite mixed critical reception, most of which centred on the game’s terrible performance and floaty movement, Lords of the Fallen 2023 managed to sell 1m copies in just 10 days after launch.

The post-launch content and commitment to the game, and the way CI Games handled players’ feedback, with their CEO Marek acting as a bridge between the players and the developers, the effort converted into more sales and player numbers.

It also helped CI Games earn players’ trust, which is now proving beneficial for them in raising funds for their ongoing projects and maybe the next ones they haven’t yet announced.

Lords of the Fallen 2023 also served as a pivot point for developers CI Games, as they were done with all the nonsense and forced propaganda that some game developers and my fellow games journalists were trying to push.

It is paying them off, as seen in Marek’s message thanking the investors:

Huge thanks to all the investors who got excited about our Players First vision. They know listening to players is rule #1 for success — and now we have the fuel to fully unleash it.

Lords of the Fallen 2 is shaping up to be a more refined and great sequel to its predecessor, and it is also one of my top soulslike games coming out in 2026. The game arrives on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X | S later this year.
